7 Day Dopamine Detox – Day 1

So, Ive undertaken a NON-NEGOTIABLE 7 day dopamine detox. In essence; this means that for 7 days I am removing all things that give instant gratification. These are things such as:

  • Social media – as in scrolling endlessly on TikTok etc
  • Sugar – avoiding it as much as possible or entirely – from sugar in drinks to sugar added in food.
  • Music (unless it’s classical) – it’s just for 7 days..
  • Junk food.

AT the same time, I am making sure I :

  • Exercise daily
  • Get into nature daily
  • Practise gratitude daily

The gratitude thing involves me writing down things I am grateful for every day, and writing more and more every day.

That’s it!

So far so good..

It’s 8.30pm on day 1 as I write this, sat in my van, waiting for my son to finish football training.

  • I walked 10,000 steps at 5am.. In nature…
  • Ive not been on any social media today, other than work-related tasks relating to my Youtube channel Shaunus.
  • I’ve honestly had no junk food whatsoever.
  • I had a Black coffee this morning, followed by 3 bananas around 11am.. then lunch was a chicken wrap with fresh orange and hard boiled eggs.
  • My evening meal was potatoes, peas and fish.
  • Ive drunk water otherwise.

Im SO PLEASED with this.. When I get home I will be writing out some more points that I am grateful for.

So why am I doing all of this?

A few reasons..

I want to get proficient at manifesting stuff into my life (in other words deciding what I want and focusing intently on it until opportunities come into my life that will take me there really fast).

I want to become more focused in general. My mind often wanders when I am trying to concentrate. This is the problem with social media. Namely, YouTube shorts, and TikTok shorts.. they capture your attention for a minute then you’re onto something else for another 60- seconds.. aka doom scrolling..

Instead of finding the quick rush of dopamine from a funny video, or instead of watching half-dressed girls on these sites, put your mind to work on changing your life for the better..

It’s all about developing your mind muscle.. Its about improving how long you can focus on something without your mind wandering.

So, by doing this 7 day dopamine detox, it allows me to become calmer (no sugar rushes or dips in energy.. in fact I feel pretty amazing after just one day!). Without the myriad of distractions smashing my mind every few seconds, my mind is calmer and more focused.
