This year we are away for Christmas. We’ve never ever done this, not ever, in 51 years. My sister passed away almost a year ago (aged just 53), and we wanted to do something different this year.
So we’ve come to Cumbria, and rented a beautiful cottage.

So far we’ve spent a day inside, and then the next day (yesterday), we drove to there nearby small town of Brampton, and had a little walk around there, and even picked up some tasty scotch pies!
Then we went back to the house, and I set off on a walking route suggested in the welcome folder the home owners have left here (it’s beautiful by the way).
The route is about 4.6 to 5 miles, and took me through farmers fields, through multiple scenic little locations with cottages, rivers and streams, and I got to enjoy being immersed in nature, and surrounded by beautiful views.
I also want to say that I was a little bit nervous. A place I’ve never been to in my life. Cutting over farmers fields, and not the best mobile signal.
But I did have a photo of the walking route, and a took a photo of the instructions.
So, I felt quite exposed, but also quite excited!.
Towards the later second half of the walk I went through about a mile of wooded area, literally following a pathway which eventually became nothing more than a bit of a clearing through trees. This felt a bit unnerving, but I had Google maps with me and I knew I was heading towards a road that led back to my village.
All in all, it was a thoroughly enjoyable Christmas Eve walk, and I managed to easily get in 10,000 steps in, which ultimately ended up being around 12,000 to 13,000 steps. Nice!
So I am writing this Christmas Day morning at 7.50am, just before the family wake up ready to enjoy the special day.
Make the most of every day and of your life. Live how YOU want to live, do what YOU want to do, if it makes you truly happy.
I’m really enjoying walking, being outside, and sharing this with people.
Merry Christmas!
